FINISHING ORNAMENTS

I thought I would show you how I finish those small ornaments - perfect project these couple of days with our 'early' snow storm. Yes that was snow on the pumpkin, not frost!

Supplies: ornament - 3.5" square, 2 pieces of scrap batt 3.5" square (mine are a medium loft left from quilt trims), 2 pieces of backing fabric 2.5" x 3.5" folding one long side in 1/2" (I finger pressed, but you can iron), and one piece of thin ribbon cut 6"

First step: stack 2 batt pieces, ornament face up, fold ribbon in half and pin to center (leave 1/4" overhang from edge to be sure to catch secure in seam)

Second Step: place backging piece that has folded edge face down, lining up edges with ornament.

Third Step: place other backing piece face down, lining up edges with ornament and pin all in place.

Fourth Step: start on bottom edge and sew completely across, turn and start again from edge to edge - repeat all sides. Clip corners.

Fifth Step: turn and push out corners - I use an old chop stick. Sew your back seam with whip stitch or hem stitch or you can even use fabric glue if you don't like hand work.

Some of the finished ornaments. By doing this method, I don't have to stuff (evenly stuff) a tiny item - I use up my scraps - and my side seams are nice and straight (side hole turns make indentations) - and my back is nice and smooth.

I am working on some other Christmas projects, but can't share as they are for swaps and I know receivers are followers - gotta' keep a secret.

CLOSING THOUGHT

Many people still believe that gargoyles were created by medieval architects and stone carvers to ward off evil spirits.

Knock Knock.
Who's There?
Gargoyle.
Gargoyle Who?
Gargoyle after every meal for fresh breath..

Bloggers' Quilt Festival : Fall 2011

I am pleased to make an entry into the Bloggers' Quilt Festival : Fall 2011. The hostess is Amy over at AmysCreativeSide. Take some time to visit the many lovely entries - you won't be disappointed!

My entry is 'Raggedy Friends' that was offered by the lovely Ms Kaaren at The Painted Quilt as a free block of the month. A delightful mix of Annie, Andy and their friends and shared loves. Combining wonderful stitcheries with scrappy block lay-out made for a cherished quilt. I chose to hand quilt with lots of hearts thru out the piece. And I searched for and saved lots of red buttons while working on this - for all those eyes and accents! *a few close ups*

Miss Trudi Ghastlie

Ms Deonn Ghastlie

Mrs Marlene Ghastlie

Mrs Kim Ghastlie

DAY 5 Giveaway... And yes you guessed ... 2 more WINNERS for
Ghastlie Fabric... 4 Yards EACH of this GHASTLIE Collection from our sponsor
Alexander Henry Fabrics...

Just leave a comment with the day's Ghastlie Sisters and they will each submit a name into the caldron.

I was just like any ghoul in an ice cream shop - just 'delighted' with all the response to yesterday's post and look at all the new followers. Thank you everyone, you made me feel so special. There was a lot of requests for a tutorial on the diary cover and the tissue box cover. So in November, I will be presenting those for you lovely people as a thank you to your overwhelming response.

I did manage to get some sewing done inbetween answering all those
e-mails - yes I answered each and everyone! These are paper pieced ornament blocks (member of Carol Doak's Yahoo group) and I did get a dozen of each tree and ornament block. They need pressing and trimming before quilting and stuffing. I have 3 other designs I want to do also ------ AND why you ask Christmas projects during a Halloween Blog Hop?

Because we have been getting snow since early Wednesday afternoon and still snowing!! It has put me in a mood to get some gifties done, but I hope it stops soon.

CLOSING THOUGHT

Halloween candy sales average about 2 billion dollars annually in the United States. Halloween is the 2nd most commercially successful holiday, with Christmas being the first.

Ghastlie Blog Hop Day 4

"Will you walk into my parlor?" said the Spider to the Fly,
'Tis the prettiest little parlor that ever you did spy;
The way into my parlor is up a winding stair,"

"And I have many curious things to show you when you are there."
"Oh no, no," said the Fly, "to ask me is in vain;
For who goes up your winding stair can ne'er come down again."

I originally was going to make pieces inspired by Sabastian, but suddenly is became about Prudence - who's name means: 'the ability to govern and discipline oneself by the use of reason'. Disturbing little child in a disturbing family - is she their stability? So I had to use some pink mixed in with all the dark and macabra.

And like any little girl who needs to make some order to her life - a diary upon the bed - oh, that rascally Sabastian will sneak in almost anywhere. Yes I made my own Prudence pattern - that's black lace from my great grans hat shop and I know she would love this - and the diary is a sleeved cover for a composition notebook, so once filled a new one can be inserted. And yes, a little pocket to hold a pencil or pen.

Extra pillows - some comfort to our poor Prudence in this disturbing family? A tissue cover showcasing the uncles and a candle mat (pattern 'Spider's Den Block' from McCall's Quilting)- both using up scraps from the quilt and other projects.

A self portrait - since the family is in fear of mirrors. Dear sweet Prudence, if we could only get that hammer out of her hands. Again using scraps from other projects - just didn't want to waste any little crumb. And I found the most delightful witch's hat hanger - would make her old knitting aunties happy.

** since so many have asked - the hanger is from:
Ackfeldwire **

And when no one is looking, we can change things up. My first use of Minky, I'll admit. But even a little girl like Prudence deserves some cuddly! There's that darn cat!!!

AH HA - caught that crookedly cat! Yes, I used one of the likenesses in the Sabastian fabric and designed my own bit of furry scarey. My own fur babies do not like Sabastian and give him quite the 'HISS & SWAT' attack.

Here is my collection of Alexander Henry's Ghastly fun. Reversable quilt with pillow case, two reversable throw pillows, mini wallhanging, tissue cover, candle mat, Sabastian, and Prudence.

MY GHASTLY GIVE AWAY

I started this piece as a runner, then thought a window treatment. As you can see it was never finished. Also, 7 pieces of fabric for your own Ghastly fun. They range from a FQ to half a yard to a full yard. You do not have to be a follower, but I would certainly welcome you. Specify if you would like to be in the drawing in your comment(s), and I will ship interational (I will cover shipping). This will be open until the end of the Blog Hop and name drawn midnight Nov. 4th - will post on the 5th.
